Expecting the exodus of passengers during the long weekend due to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and observance of “Undas”, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has allowed provincial buses to ply EDSA until Nov. 6.

In a statement, MMDA Acting Chairperson Don Artes said provincial buses are permitted to travel along EDSA from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“Provincial buses from North Luzon can reach terminals in Cubao, Quezon City,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Artes said provincial buses coming from South Luzon can stop at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

Lawyer Victor Nuñez, MMDA director for Metro Manila Traffic Management Group, said the agency will deploy more than 1,400 MMDA traffic enforcers along major thoroughfares during the long weekend.

He added that the agency has also implemented a “No Day Off and No Absent” policy as all hands are needed on deck to man traffic on major roads.

“And kasama rin po diyan ang aming Road Emergency Group na naka-pre-deploy ang mga ambulansiya at iyong mga emergency vehicles para magresponde sa anumang sakuna or anumang emergency ng ating mga kababayan (And that also includes our Road Emergency Group that has pre-deployed ambulances and emergency vehicles to respond to any disaster or emergency),” he said in a televised media briefing.

MMDA’s Road Emergency Group personnel will be pre-deployed in terminals and major cemeteries in the metropolis, Nuñez noted.
