NGO partners with Mindoro resort in marine conservation initiative

MANILA, Philippines – A non-government organization that co-manages marine protected areas (MPAs) with government, communities and private sector to protect marine biodiversity and promote the improvement of local livelihoods, recently established a collaborative partnership with a resort in Boquete Island, Mindoro.

The strategic alliance between Blue Alliance Philippines and Fridays Puerto Galera seeks to enhance marine conservation and strengthen programs safeguarding the marine ecosystems surrounding the resort while simultaneously fostering sustainable tourism initiatives.

Located inside the lagoons of the UNESCO-protected Muelle Bay, this eco-friendly resort in Puerto Galera boasts of one of the best beaches in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines.

Reconfirmed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve by the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), Muelle Bay is listed as one of the world’s most beautiful bays and is considered a national heritage site.

In an activity held last February 29, local resident employees and the resort’s scuba diver instructors attended a seminar, with Blue Alliance Philippines tackling the safeguarding of marine ecosystems, promoting sustainable practices, and raising awareness in preserving marine life.

Fridays Puerto Galera can be accessed through Berberabe Port in Batangas City some two hours away from Metro Manila and another 30 minutes by boat to the island of Boquete, otherwise known as Paniquian Island.
