On Wednesday (Manila time), Obiena topped the NetAachen Domspringen in Aachen, Germany pole vault tournament, after clearing the height of 5.92 meters.

Taking the silver was Sam Kendricks of the United States with a 5.87-meter performance. France's Thibault Collet took the bronze after clearing 5.82 meters.

The world's number one pole vaulter and world record holder Armand Duplantis of Sweden and USA's Christopher Nilsen did not compete in this tournament.

On Monday, September 4, Obiena cleared 5.92 meters to win the gold in the Istaf Berlin at the Olympiastadion, also in Germany.

Obiena's next big tournament is the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China later this month, in which Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino assured the Philippines of a gold medal in a recent public briefing.
