‘One Piece’ actor Mackenyu to headline Manila Pop Con

JAPANESE actor Mackenyu Arata is set to arrive in the country for the first time at a new pop culture convention slated for November.

Arata, who played Roronoa Zero in the Netflix live action adaptation of One Piece, will be one of the guests of Manila Pop Con 2023 or Manipopcon from November 17 to19 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

“To all my Filipino fans out there, I'm happy to share that I will be appearing at Manipopcon in Manila on November 17-19th, See you guys there!” Arata said in his video message on the event's Facebook page.

Arata, the son of Japanese martial artist Sonny Chiba, gained fame for his roles in the live action adaptation of Chihayafuru as Arata Wataya, opposite Suzu Hirose as the main character, Chihaya Arase.

He also appeared as Yukishiro Enishi in the fourth installment of the Rurouni Kenshin movie series: “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final”, as well as “JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable Chapter 1,” and “Tokyo Ghoul: S.” Aside from One Piece, Arata also played the lead role in “Knights of the Zodiac,” the Hollywood adaptation of the Saint Seiya manga franchise, as well as in Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Details regarding his meet and greet, as well as other guests for Manipopcon, will be announced in the coming weeks.
