Rain or Shine bucked a slow start and the ejection of head coach Yeng Guiao in the opening period as the Elasto Painters scored a 109-105 come-from-behind win against Phoenix at the start of the 2023 Converge Pocket Tournament on Friday, October 13, at the Gatorade Hoops Center.
Guiao, known for speaking his mind out against game officials, was tossed out of the game with still 1:46 left in the first period after incurring back-to-back technical fouls for hurling invectives on referee Jerry Narandan.
Rain or Shine trailed at the end of the first quarter, 34-21.
The Elasto Painters, however, seemed to get the sublime message from Guiao and outscored the Fuel Masters, 41-22 in the second period behind import Dajuan Summers' 17-point explosion for a 62-56 halftime lead.
Rain or Shine relied on its 20 three-point shots to mount the big comeback.
Summers led Rain or Shine with 20 points, while Anton Asistio and Rey Nambatac added 15 each.
Rookie Sherwin Concepcion added 12 points while first-round pick Keith Datu chipped in nine points and two boards in over 22 minutes of play.
Import Johnathan Williams led Phoenix with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while rookies Ken Tuffin and Raffy Verano scored 12 points apiece.
