REVIEW: The OPPO Find N3 Flip rewrites foldable smartphone expectations

In a tech world dominated by generic-looking slab smartphones, the launch of OPPO’s Find N3 Flip brings a breath of fresh air. Having had the chance to spend some time with it, I can firmly say it’s one of the most impressive flip phones I’ve ever encountered. Forget any preconceived notions you might have about flip phones because the Find N3 Flip is different. I can confirm that the buzz surrounding this device is worth every word.

Let’s start with its design. The phone’s sleek, contemporary aesthetic, available in Cream Gold, Misty Pink, and Sleek Black, is a testament to OPPO’s commitment to fashion-forward technology. As OPPO said, “It’s super portable in your hand and slips easily into your pocket”. The 6.8-inch main screen is stunning, with sharp details, vibrant colors, and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The cover screen, at 3.26 inches, is not just an afterthought – it’s a functional tool that lets you quickly glance at notifications, control quick toggles, and even take selfies.

Speaking of selfies, let’s dive into the camera system because it’s truly the star of the show.

OPPO collaborated with Hasselblad to develop advanced imaging solutions for OPPO’s flagship smartphones with a triple camera system. OPPO leveraged Hasselblad’s color science and imaging expertise to provide users with more natural and refined photos.

The 50MP primary camera is exceptional, capturing pictures with clarity, detail, and vibrancy. This is especially evident when shooting in challenging lighting conditions, where the Find N3 Flip truly excels. The ultra-wide camera, at 48MP, is a fantastic addition, especially with its impressive macro capabilities. The addition of optical zoom in the 32MP portrait camera makes it versatile for many photography scenarios.

The OPPO Find N3 Flip introduces the innovative FlexForm mode, enabling users to fold the device halfway, mimicking a hands-free tripod effect. This groundbreaking capability provides a means to stabilize the device and ushers in fresh creative avenues for both photography and videography enthusiasts.

Using FlexForm mode, I captured multi-angle shots, merging them to forge a fuller, more engaging picture. This is particularly beneficial for images like group photos or vast landscapes where a singular angle might fall short. Videographers can also relish the ease of shooting hands-free content, from time-lapses to product demos and even vlogs. Users can initiate recording by merely propping the phone, eliminating the need for external support. Moreover, the discomfort of bending over to achieve the desired low-angle shot is a thing of the past, thanks to FlexForm. It allows me to experiment with camera angles, shots from below, above, or any unconventional viewpoint that might elevate my subject.

Diving deeper into the FlexForm offerings, the mode comes packed with specialized features. FlexForm Interval Shooting, for instance, facilitates capturing a sequence of images at set intervals, yielding outputs like GIFs, perfect for dynamic fashion shoots. Waist-level framing ensures chic, low-angle shots, spotlighting details like shoes, outfits, or intricate makeup. Those nostalgic for the classic DV style can utilize DV Recording for a retro video feel. Ambitious photographers aiming for long-exposure shots without the typical tripod setup can lean on FlexForm Long Exposure, crafting images of mesmerizing light trails, stars, or cascading waterfalls. Similarly, FlexForm Time-Lapse takes the challenge out of time-lapse videography, bypassing the need for external stabilizers.

The OPPO Find N3 Flip is a top-tier choice for those eyeing a smartphone camera capable of versatile and creative outputs. With FlexForm mode at its core, capturing compelling content from diverse angles without the constraint of maintaining device stability has never been more straightforward.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset ensured that my experience was smooth, whether I was multitasking, gaming, or editing videos.

Battery life is another strong suit for the Find N3 Flip. Its 4300mAh battery and the 44W SUPERVOOC fast charging ensure I’m not frequently reaching for a charger. The fact that it can get 50% in just 23 minutes is impressive.

The Find N3 Flip offers an IPX4 water resistance rating, dual-friction plates, and a core made of aircraft-grade stainless steel for increased durability. Durability-wise, the phone feels robust and well-built. The improved Flexion Hinge and the TÜV Rheinland Reliable Folding certification, proving its ability to endure 600,000 folds, is comparable to over 16 years of usage, assuming I fold the phone 100 times daily, giving me confidence in its longevity. The no-gap hinge design is aesthetically pleasing and ensures a smooth folding experience.

The Find N3 Flip is more than just a flip phone – it’s a technological marvel that caters to modern-day needs while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. It combines style, performance, and innovation, making it a worthy flagship contender in the smartphone market. I eagerly await to see how competitors will respond, but for now, the Find N3 Flip stands in a league of its own.
