Sony gives content creation the ‘spatial’ treatment

Announced at CES 2024, Sony has introduced a VR headset that would allow spatial content creation.

This means, you will be able to build things in a 3D environment. You may be able to move around, place blocks, connect dots in the air here and there. Think Tony Stark when he was designing an Iron Man suit.

This headset is not meant for gamers. It’s for professionals who intend to build things. Of course this means games, but beyond that, it might also work for engineering and architecture, designing, and maybe even digital forms of art creation.

It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, which is designed to go head-to-head against Apple’s own R1 chip used in their Vision Pro (by the way, the Vision Pro will be shipping next month). Sony’s headset also includes 4K OLED displays. I’m still not too hype having extremely super bright screens an inch away from my eyeballs, but I guess we’ll see.
