Sotto relishes turning World Cup dream to reality

KAI Sotto used to just dream of playing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup years ago.

The 7-foot-3 center just turned that dream into reality, having played at home for Gilas Pilipinas in the world meet.

Sotto relished every bit of the experience he just had.

“From dreams to reality,” Sotto began in an Instagram post late Tuesday night.

“What an experience for me, despite all the hate and distractions, I still got a lot of positives from all of this. I was just a young kid dreaming of playing in this 2023 World Cup years ago, but now I am proud to say that I've been a part of it.”

Sotto added that he looks forward to playing more World Cup editions or any international tournaments at par with its level.

The NBA hopeful logged 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.8 blocks over five games in his World Cup debut.

“Little Kai thought this World Cup would be the peak basketball that I would play in, but now after all of it, I'm confident and excited to say there's still way more to it along the way,” said Sotto.

“I hate talking about the future, but this time I'm looking forward to it. Pilipinas is only gonna get better. Mark my words.”

The 21-year-old Sotto also thanked the fans who gave Gilas support and an extra shot of energy in all their World Cup games.

“People who never wore this Pilipinas jersey will never understand the difficulties, pressure and the sacrifices we made. But also can't compare to the fun and joy we experienced after it all ended. Thank you, Pilipinas!” said Sotto.

“Your support was truly felt, and it gave us more strength during the World Cup.”
