Sotto to join more mini camps in bid to make NBA Summer League team

Kai Sotto is set to join more mini camps by NBA teams in his bid to make a Summer League team and ultimately the NBA itself, according to his agent Tony Ronzone of Wasserman Media Group.

Sotto, 21, already had joined mini camps held by Utah and Dallas but his camp looks to bolster his chances of making an NBA Summer League team by having him join more mini camps in the next four weeks.

“We're escalating it quickly because we're trying to get him ready. And again we're coming up soon to two more mini-camps, we got continuous workouts, and we got Summer League,” Ronzone said in an interview with Power and Play hosted by Noli Eala.

“It's all within the next month,” added in the interview posted by Eala on Twitter on Tuesday, June 6.

Ronzone implied that Sotto is a lot closer to his NBA dream than most people think, at least skill-wise.

“He's there. It's just a matter of him taking the next step. He's right there, it's just a matter of him grabbing it,” said Ronzone.

“Skill-wise, he's got it. You can't teach height. You can't teach his ability to score, shoot the 3-ball. Most bigs can't shoot the 3-ball, Kai can shoot the 3-ball.”

After being undrafted in the NBA last year, Sotto returned to playing for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia's National Basketball League, where he registered 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per game.

Sotto then took his talents to Japan, playing for B. League team Hiroshima Dragonflies for the 2023 season. He recently signed a two-year extension contract which has an opt-out clause should he make an NBA team.
