‘Star Wars’ actors no longer attending ManiPopCon 2023

MANILA, Philippines — Organizers for the Manila Pop Culture Convention (ManiPopCon) announced that "Star Wars" actors Emily Swallow and Diana Lee Inosanto will no longer be attending the convention's 2023 edition.

ManiPopCon organizers released a statement just days before the event was set to hold from November 17 to 19 in Ayala Malls Manila Bay that Swallow and Inosanto are unable to attend because of "unforeseen developments."

"In navigating these unexpected challenges, we want to clarify that this situation is a result of unforeseen development faced by ManiPopCon and we want to apologize to the actresses and their management teams," the statement read.

Organizers assured individuals who purchased meet and greet tickets would be fully refunded, with ticketing partner Ticketmet already beginning the refunding process.

Still set to appear at ManiPopCon 2023 are Netflix's "One Piece" star Mackenyu and voice actress Mela Lee, best known for her lending her talents to properties like "Mortal Kombat," "Fate/stay night," "Apex Legends," and "Super Smash Bros."

Swallow portrays The Armorer on the "Star Wars" live-action show "The Mandalorian," the leader of a tribe of Mandalorian warriors, including the titular character Din Djarin, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, carrying duties by being a spiritual guide and forging beskar steel armor.

The Filipino-American Inosanto also appeared on "The Mandalorian" as Morgan Elsbeth, former Magistrate of Calodan and a Nighsister of Dathomir, a role she reprised in another series this year, "Ahsoka."

Inosanto is the daughter of martial arts expert Dan Inosanto and the goddaughter of the late Bruce Lee, one of her father's many students.
