Sunday Times Magazine Columnist receives highest French Honor

Tireless advocate for Philippine Cinema and The Sunday Times Magazine Arts Awake section columnist Liza Diño has been selected by the French Ministry of Culture this year to receive the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (National Order of Arts and Letters) with the rank of Chevalier (Knight). The recognition is considered the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for individuals who have significantly contributed to furthering the arts in France and around the world. Dino is being cited for her achievements in drawing the world's attention to quality Filipino filmmakers and movies during her tenure as chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and her efforts to promote French and world cinema to the local audience in return. She is the first Filipina chevalier awardee for cinema and is second to Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh to be knighted in the field for Southeast Asia. French Ambassador to the Philippines Michèle Boccoz will lead the awarding ceremony tonight at her official residence.
