Tenorio upbeat on October comeback as cancer treatment almost done

Five months after startling the basketball world when he announced he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, Barangay Ginebra's veteran playmaker LA Tenorio is now on the way to recovery and is on target for a comeback this October.

Tenorio, 39, mentioned that he's been religiously attending to his cancer treatment and is now down to the last two of the required 12 sessions.

“I've been posting on my social media (account) that I'm already done with 10 of 12 and has two sessions left for my treatment. I'm really looking forward to finishing my treatment and that everything will be okay,” Tenorio said during his recent interview with PlayitRight TV, a Youtube sports channel hosted by sports analyst Quinito Henson and Dyan Castillejo.

Once his treatment is done, the 16-year PBA veteran said he will start doing light workout and light cardio, but he'll do so once he gets the green light from his doctors.

While medical treatment has really helped him recover well, the PBA's “Iron Man”, took the time to also thank his family, friends and even supporters for praying for his speedy recovery.

“I'm really focused on getting better, and now, it's slowly paying off and so far, with all prayers and support of my family and friends, even prayers of those who I don't know, getting back to playing is not that far (anymore),” said Tenorio, who, before missing the entire Governors' Cup, played a total of 744 consecutive games, the longest streak of matches played by any active PBA player.

In between treatment and rest, Tenorio would be seen sitting behind the Ginebra bench during the Governors' Cup of last season, as well as the recent PBA On Tour as a show of support to his team.

And to keep his mind free from worry and anxiety, Tenorio revealed he'd also play golf.

Tenorio, the fourth overall pick of San Miguel in the 2006 PBA Draft, is gunning to play for the 17th year of his career when the pro league's Season 48 kicks off on Oct. 15.

He is an eight-time PBA champion and a four-time PBA Finals MVP.
