The sights, sounds and flavors of Morocco

When tracing along a map of dream destinations around the world, more often than not, one’s fingers quickly zeroes in on the country that forms the edge of the northern Africa. Immediately, a sense of mystery and magic of Morocco, where everything from the Iconic mosque Hassan II in Casablanca, the dizzying medieval maze of wonders in the traditional souks and riads of Marrakesh, the calmness of the blue streets of Chefchaouen and the jaw-dropping expanse of the Moroccan Desert come to mind.

This imagination is almost visceral, with the sights, sounds, and sensation of the country coursing through one’s system, compelling them to manifest that wish into reality.

Rustan’s, in partnership with the Embassy of he Kingdom of Morocco in the Philippines, Moroccan National Tourism Office, whisks shoppers to Morocco through the grand festival, ongoing until Dec. 31 on the fifth floor of Rustan’s Makati, and on the second floor of Rustan’s Shangri-La.

During this cultural gateway, one can discover the rich heritage and the cultural diversity of the Kingdom of Morocco.

In light of the recent calamity in Morocco, five percent of the total sales will be donated to the victims of the earthquake through the Embassy of Morocco, demonstrating Rustan’s dedication to not only celebrating culture but also supporting those in need.

Rustan’s, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan National Tourism Office feature highlights including musical entertainment, calligraphy and henna tattoo sessions. Walls of blue zellige (handmade tiles) that will be an explosion of spellbinding mosaic patterns will bookend the space, which will be festooned with food and accouterments.

There’s also art exhibition inspired by Moroccan Jars by Nikulas Lebajo, Moroccan-inspired tablescapes by Pinky Tobiano, and a fascinating display of handmade Moroccan fountains made of Zellige tiles. Also check out the brass lamps from Casablanca, camel bone jars and jewelry boxes hand-carved with beautiful designs; handmade Moroccan porcelain dinnerware and tajines; Moroccan silverwares, as well as bursts of colors in Moroccan linens, poufs, ottomans, and rugs. It will feel as if you are right smack in the heart of Marrakesh, sipping mint tea, sampling spices and dates, and slathering on Argan oil, all of which will be made available by Rustan’s.

There will also be a raffle promo granting seven lucky patrons the chance to fly out to Morocco or win luxury merchandise. To join, present a receipt with a minimum purchase amount of P10,000. The prizes include two business class tickets to Morocco sponsored by Emirates Airlines; three Zellige Tile Moroccan Fountain; Zellige Tile Table Set of 3; a Moroccan rug; and a Moroccan Dinnerware Set of 12.
