Yulo polishes landings for World Championships

(UPDATE) FILIPINO Olympic artistic gymnast Carlos Yulo had been practicing his routines for the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Videos on his Instagram page show Yulo practicing his vault landing positions, as well as the pommel horse, in his first practice since clinching the Asian Championships in Singapore.

One video shows Yulo showing “basic landings,” while another video posted Tuesday night showed him doing another front-position basic landing for the vault.

“Basic landings front positions,” said Yulo.

The 23-year-old is preparing for the World Championships, in order to secure a berth at next year's Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Yulo will be skipping the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as, according to Philippine Gymnastics Association President Cynthia Carreon, it is not an Olympic qualifier.

The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Antwerp, Belgium, from September 30 to October 8.

Yulo needs to make the top eight in the individual all-around or at least win a gold medal in one apparatus to make his second Olympic stint.

Judging from his performance in the recently concluded Asian Championships in Singapore, Yulo, a two-time world champion, appeared to be on his way to another Olympic appearance through this World Championships.

In the Asian Championships, Yulo captured a gold medal each in the vault, floor exercise, and parallel bars, as well as a bronze in horizontal bars.

The 23-year-old also plucked a silver medal in the individual all-around, which keyed his World Championships qualification.
