The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was awarded the 2023 ‘Freedom of Information (FOI) Award’ a feat recognized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) for its excellence in the dissemination of valuable information of prime public importance.

With the PCO’s recognition, it underscored the BJMP’s commitment to fostering an environment of openness and accessibility, aligning seamlessly with the core values of the FOI program by being the top requested and performing agency in the eFOI portal with at least 90 percent closed transactions.

In a statement, the BJMP noted that its performance serves as a testament to the bureau’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of transparency and accountability in its operations.

BJMP chief Director Ruel Rivera received the award on Tuesday, Nov. 21 with the bureau’s ‘exceptional commitment to transparency, accountability and the advancement of freedom of information principles.’

“Receiving the 2023 FOI Award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in our operations. At the BJMP, we prioritize open access to information, enabling us to serve the public with greater efficiency and trust,” Rivera stated.

Bestowed by the Presidential Communications Office, the BJMP pointed out that the 2023 FOI Awards commend the outstanding contributions from government agencies within the executive branch, institutional partners, individuals, and civil society organizations.

“These entities have significantly shaped the successful implementation and development of the FOI program,’’ the BJMP added.
