DMW warns public vs direct hire scams on Facebook

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has warned the public against unauthorized groups and individuals using Facebook to spread “inaccurate and misleading information” on the DMW's direct hiring processes.

“The public is hereby warned of proliferating on Facebook chat and groups intended for direct hire applicants, giving inaccurate and misleading advice and information on the process to secure exemptions from the ban on direct hiring from the DMW,” the government agency said in a statement on Friday.

The Department said it has received reports that these groups have been scamming applicants in the guise of giving unsolicited advice and even demanding a certain amount of money in exchange for their services.

The public is further informed that these groups were not created nor endorsed by the DMW.

The DMW said these groups are also reportedly offering services to secure clearance under the direct facility of the DMW, which are usually not in line with the legal way of direct hire processes.

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and overseas job seekers are advised to use only the official channels and sites of the DMW at https://www.dmw.gov.ph.

The DMW is urging the public to report such illegal activities to the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau at 87221192 or email at [email protected].
