Filipinas upset host New Zealand for first-ever World Cup win

First-ever World Cup victory for the Philippines.

In an absolute historic occasion in Philippine football history, the world no. 46 Filipinas took down world no. 26 and co-host New Zealand, 1-0, at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on Tuesday afternoon, July 25 (Manila time).

Sarina Bolden delivered the lone goal of the contest in the 24th minute, heading in a high cross from Sara Eggesvik.

With the win, the Philippines also remains in contention for a top two finish in Group A with three points, a -1 goal difference on a 1-1 slate.
