Who’s the half-Filipina in ‘Barbie’s’ cast?

She plays a Supreme Court Justice in “Barbie,” and she's half Filipina.

Ana Cruz Kayne is the American actress of Filipino descent in the star-studded cast of Greta Gerwig's “Barbie” movie, which opens across Philippine cinemas today.

An article titled “18 Things to know about Jewish actress Ana Cruz Kayne” (www.heyalma.com) writes, “Ana was born on April 28, 1984, to a Jewish father and a mother who was raised Catholic. On her mother's side, she's Filipina.”

Best known for her performances in “Little Women,” “Jerry & Marge Go Large” and “Painkiller,” Kayne is always proud to show off her Filipino heritage, wearing a terno, in fact, to the “Barbie” premieres in Hollywood and London.

Sending a message to her renowned Filipiniana designer on Instagram and everyone who helped her slay the dreamy Barbie-pink butterfly-sleeved creation, the actress wrote, “Maraming salamat to my dream team for sending me down the pink carpet feeling like my own snatched fairy godmother. Special thanks to Dennis Lustico for the dreamiest balintawak. Mahal kita.”

Days before, she raised the Philippine flag at the London premiere, fashioning another fabulous Lustico terno for the world to see.

Now 33 years old, Kayne has been a professional actor since 2007. She took up college at New York City's Barnard College, where she graduated with a degree in Neuroscience and Italian literature.
