WNM Suyamin gears up for Asean chessfest

WOMAN National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin expressed confidence and readiness to play in the 21st Asean+ Age Group Chess Championships to be held on June 17-27 in Bangkok, Thailand.

“It's a prestigious tournament and I am really excited. I will do my best to win and bring honor to our country,” said the 13-year-old pride of General Trias City, Cavite whose international stints are being supported by Mayor Luis ''Jon Jon'' Ferrer 4th, Arnel Beltran del Rosario of the Del Rosario Christian Institute and coach Ederwin Estavillo.

Suyamin, a Grade 7 student from Del Rosario Christian Institute, will also be part of the Philippine chess team in the World Youth Chess Championships to be held on November 12-25 in Montesilvano, Italy.

She is fresh from winning the girls under-15 division standard time control at the Mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos National Youth and Schools Chess Championships Grand Finals in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte that ended on June 8.

Suyamin collected 9.5 points in 11 rounds to rule the FIDE event organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

She scored victories over Kaye Lalaine Regidor in the first round, Ryien Bahita in the second round, Maryss Annxeniel Caldoza in the third round, Lyn Getubig in the fourth round, LJ Getubig in the fifth round, Hannah Jillian Luminario in the sixth round, Kristel Love Nietes in the seventh round, and Jirah Floravie Cutiyog in the 11th and final round.

She drew with Ruelle Canino in the eighth round, Daren Dela Cruz in the ninth round and Maria Kristine Lavandero in the 10th round.
