As the nation observes All Saints Day on Wednesday, Nov. 1 and All Souls Day on Thursday, Nov. 2, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines called on the faithful to live holy lives and follow the life and works of saints.
San Fernando, La Union Bishop Daniel Presto, vice-chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education said, the saints serve as guides and intercessors for the prayers and petitions of the faithful.
“When we pray to the saints, we feel inspired by their exemplary lives. Many of them were martyrs. They lived holy lives. They were missionaries. When we pray to them, they intercede for our petitions,” said Bishop Presto over Radio Veritas.
“May our faith deepen and strengthen when we look at the lives of saints. May their lives serve as an inspiration for us in our daily struggles,” the Church leader added.
Bishop Presto encouraged the faithful to pray continuously for the eternal repose of the souls of their departed loved ones.
“It is important to pray especially for the souls in purgatory that they may attain eternal salvation and be with our Lord Jesus Christ,” he said.
The prelate said that the souls of the departed are also praying for their loved ones and the families that they left behind. “So as we observe All Saints Day and All Souls Day, let us remember to pray for them.”
